What's New in 2023

A look at the hottest trends that we’re most excited to see hit homes this year.

Published on January 20, 2023

With the new year comes the promise of new beginnings—and in our world, that means exciting new interior design trends to look forward to. With three years of pandemic-induced time spent in and around our homes, people have gotten, perhaps, overly familiar with the fixtures and furniture filling their spaces.

So, this year, we’ll be seeing more and more homeowners getting adventurous and shaking up their interiors with fresh, globally-inspired, and unexpected décor.

Here, we’ll dive into ever-flowing waters of style to ascertain the aesthetic tides and trends we’re most excited to see enter our homes this year. If the forecasts we’re seeing are correct, those with both contemporary and traditional tastes will find new trends to suit their homes.

EARTHLY TONES

Ever since people  started hunkering down in their homes, we’ve been seeing a rise in comfortable, earth-based colors, and we expect homeowners to continue doubling down on this trend in the coming year. Forget the grays and cooler neutrals of the past—this year, warm neutrals like chocolate brown, deep green, and soft blush will be calling the shots.

Looking at the 2023 Colors of the Year, such as Sherwin-Williams’ Redend Point and Behr’s Blank Canvas, it’s clear that people are searching for fresh ground in the neutral space, and introducing more unexpected tones while keeping things soft and comfortable.

ECCENTRIC MEETS TRADITIONAL

As we all got better acquainted with our homes, we had the opportunity to think about what we wanted out of our interiors. Now that we’re spending more and more time back out in the world—traveling or simply exploring our own communities—people are ditching bland minimalist aesthetics and beige palettes for unique, ornate collectibles and other accessories that allow them to explore more colorful, layered looks in their décor.

Call it “maximalism” or call it simply unique—wherever you land, this is your chance to get a little more adventurous with your décor and play with new shapes, new textures, and new art pieces to change up the feel of your space and make it distinctly yours. Tie the look together with classic, deep-colored hardwood flooring like the Coronado Oak Solid Hardwood Flooring.

FUNKY ORGANICS

Just like last year, it’s organic materials—wood, stone, and clay—which still reign supreme in our homes. With more of a conscious eye toward sustainability, people are finding exciting new ways to integrate natural materials into their homes, opting for unique pieces and hand-made items over more short-lived, fast furniture.
