LLStyle: Color of the Year 2023

What were the top colors for 2023? Find out here.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year: when major paint brands release their trend forecasts for the coming year! It may seem crazy that 2022 is nearly behind us, but the design world is always several steps ahead, preparing for the trends to come.

2022 was the year of green—green kitchen cabinets, green walls, green furniture, green everything. And, according to brands like Sherwin-Williams, Valspar, and Behr, 2023 will touch on similar organic tones, keeping with the soothing, natural vibes that people love to integrate into their home design. In the coming year, you can expect to see plenty of deep blue-greens, warm neutrals, and subtle rosy-pinks worked into homes everywhere.

Here’s a rundown of some major brands and their submissions for Color of the Year.

Glidden: Vining Ivy

This medium-toned shade of blue-green is designed to be energizing, yet grounding—bringing in a more vibrant natural hue that ties well with lighter woods and other organic materials. You can either play up the natural elements with neutral accents like wood, or go glam with gold or jewel-toned accents.

Sherwin-Williams: Redend Point

For 2023, Sherwin-Williams is leaning into the cozy, and we couldn’t be more grateful. This shade of neutral rosy-pink is a great way to introduce some subtle color while staying true to the “new neutrals” (Read: Design Tips from the Style Report: 'New Neutrals') that have blown up this past year. To play up the romance of this tone, pair it with other pink and red hues. Alternatively, to lean into the neutrals, pair it with soft earth tones and natural materials like wood and clay.

Valspar: Everglade Deck

This year, Valspar opted not to choose just one Color of the Year. Instead, they selected 12 unique shades that correspond with specific emotional states. Everglade Deck is a deep, rich teal that invokes feelings of calm and introspection, and pairs wonderfully with brushed gold accents and sophisticated finishes. Consider this shade for a smaller space like a bathroom, where it can be accented with cool light fixtures to create a calm, moody space.

Behr: Blank Canvas

If there are two things that will never go out of style, they’re beautiful hardwood floors (okay, we might be biased) and warm white walls. Though there are endless shades of white that you can choose from, this earthy tone from Behr provides the perfect neutral backdrop for virtually any design scheme. Its warmer tone pairs well with fellow earth tones. And, the selection may be in response to a recent online study conducted by Behr, which found that 75 percent of respondents agreed on the color white promoting feelings of calm and relaxation.
