It’s out with the old, and in with the new: the New Year is nearly upon us, and with it an exciting batch of fresh new trends in the interior design space.

It’s out with the old, and in with the new: the New Year is nearly upon us, and with it an exciting batch of fresh new trends in the interior design space. While it’s important not to stick too closely to any single trend with your home decor, it’s always interesting to see what’s resonating with people and what materials will be having their time in the spotlight.

While the last 10 years or so have favored cool neutrals and minimalistic spaces, all signs point to warm neutrals taking center stage, and eccentric, unique decor taking over where minimalist shapes and design has ruled.

Here are a few trends we’re most excited to welcome in 2024.

Layered colors

Who says you have to choose just one color scheme for your space? With the arrival of maximal-ism (minimalism’s wilder twin sibling) comes the idea of layering different complementary colors in both warm and cool tones, mixing neutral shades with different colors to build a striking, unique visual tapestry.

Light hardwood

Flooring is just as vulnerable to the endless trend cycle as anything in interior design, but hard-wood remains as timeless as ever. But while every shade of hardwood can look beautiful in a home, people are flocking to light hardwood to brighten up their spaces.

Whether you veer modern with matte, wide planks found in LL Flooring’s Claire Gardens Oak Engineered Hardwood Flooring, or more traditional with thinner planks and more shine found in the Select Maple Solid Hardwood Flooring, you can’t go wrong with blonde-toned wood floors, which play well with virtually any color palette.

Statement furniture

No more boring couches or furniture sets—this coming year will be all about making a statement with your furniture. By mixing and matching your chairs and sofas with different colors, patterns, materials, and shapes, your space will feel more intentional and unique to you. If you’re wary about falling into a trend trap, consider going with a classic, low-profile couch, and surrounding it with unique accent chairs in different shapes and colors to add some interest.

Baby blues

Every autumn, major paint brands select their Color of the Year for the coming year—and if this season’s selections are any indication, shades of blue are set to take over our homes in 2024. From Benjamin Moore’s mid-toned Blue Nova 825 to Sherwin-Williams’ breezy Upward and Valspar’s Renew Blue, brands are predicting that people will introduce soothing, rich shades of blue into their spaces.
