FAQ: Can I Put Vinyl Over Tile? | Peel and Stick Flooring Install Questions
Wondering how to install peel-and-stick vinyl plank flooring over tile? Learn how to refresh your space with these simple tips from LL Flooring.
How to Install Peel-and-Stick Vinyl Flooring Over Tile
With the right preparation, you can install peel-and-stick vinyl flooring over tile and other floor types, such as vinyl planks with an attached pad or rigid vinyl planks. Learning how to install peel-and-stick vinyl properly is key for long-lasting flooring performance.
First, ensure that your floor has no tears, bumps, or uneven layers which could be problematic for your new flooring layer. Then, use an adhesive primer before you place peel-and-stick flooring over the existing tile. However, if you have a tile floor with sunken grout joints, you'll first need to fill those joints so that their surface is flush with the face of the tiles themselves. If you don't fill in the grout lines, they'll show through the vinyl. Installing peel-and-stick vinyl flooring over linoleum, laminate, and other types of floors is possible, too, with proper preparation and tools.
