WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR FLOORING INSTALLATION

GETTING STARTED

Thank you for your purchase!

Thank you for choosing LL Flooring Installation Services. We are committed to your satisfaction and safety. We will be with you every step of the way, caring for your investment and helping you realize your dream.

Your life is lived on our floors, and we take that to heart!

Your new flooring is being sourced.

LL Flooring is preparing all of the necessary product to complete your installation. Once your product is available, you will be contacted to arrange delivery or pick-up. While we complete your order, here are a few things to help better prepare you and your home for installation:

·      After the product has arrived at your home, it will need to acclimate to the temperature and humidity levels of your home. Acclimation times vary by product and can range from 24 hours to multiple weeks. We will send you more information on acclimation guidelines once your product is on site.

·      Prior to installation, your home will need to be ready. This includes clearing tables and shelves of all electronics and breakables, and making arrangements for pets and children to be clear of the work area. Lastly, you or an authorized representative of the homeowner (18 years or older) will need to be present during the installation to confirm the product and appearance are acceptable and walk the final installation to ensure you are satisfied with your new floor. Further site preparation instructions will be provided as your installation date approaches.

·      During your Project Estimate, an LL Flooring Professional Independent Contractor measured and inspected the area for suitability to receive your flooring, the required labor, and associated materials. We strive to give the most accurate estimate at the time of sale, though it is not uncommon for additional work to be discovered once the old flooring is removed and existing subfloor can be further inspected. As discussed in the project estimate journey, if additional work is needed, your Professional Independent Contractor will explain any changes and payment can be made over the phone through our Project Coordination Office at 1-800-651-1635.

Scheduling your installation

Once you receive all the materials required for your project, a Professional Independent Contractor will contact you to set a date and time for installation and discuss acclimation times.

ACCLIMATION & NEXT STEPS

Acclimating your Product – The key to longevity and performance

Now that you received all of your product, a Professional Independent Contractor will contact you to set up a date and time to begin the installation. The start date of the installation will be dependent on the acclimation estimate for the product. For proper acclimation, ensure your flooring is inside your home and in the room of installation. It is essential to review and follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for your product. This can be found on our website by entering your product code and clicking on the Warranty, Installation, and Care Guide under Specifications. An Installation Project Coordinator can also provide this information by phone (1-800-651-1635) or email.

The acclimation periods given as a guideline below are general estimates and may not accurately reflect actual necessary acclimation times. Every project is unique and acclimation times vary by project and location. Actual acclimation times are dependent on environmental conditions and other factors. See Installation Guidelines for more details.*

Tile — No Acclimation required

Engineered Vinyl Plank — Minimum of 24 hours

Laminate, Cork, Engineered Hardwood & Luxury Vinyl Planks — Minimum of 48 hours

Solid Hardwood — Verification through moisture test is required at the beginning of the scheduled install date. Acclimation can take 2-5 weeks.

Solid Bamboo — Verification is achieved through multiple tests. Acclimation can take 2-5 weeks. Please remove flooring from box and cross stack individual planks as indicated in the installation guidelines.

*This information is dependent on the conditions of the service site. Suitable conditions are product specific. Refer to your product’s installation guidelines for more information. The Professional Independent Contractor will confirm acclimation is complete and verify the conditions are suitable for installation.

In order for your flooring to properly acclimate and continue to perform, ensure the following:

·      All windows and exterior doors remain closed throughout the acclimation period.

·      The temperature should generally be kept at an industry recommended standard of 60˚ - 80˚ Fahrenheit. (Note: Some products have different limits. Always consult the product installation guidelines.)

·      The relative humidity in your home is maintained in accordance with installation guidelines. Tile and vinyl products are not affected by relative humidity. For all other products, please review your product’s installation guidelines for more information.

·      A humidifier or dehumidifier may be necessary to achieve appropriate humidity levels in arid or humid regions. A hygrometer is recommended to monitor relative humidity.

Next Steps

Once your install is scheduled, we will send you more information on how to prepare your home for install. Keep in mind you will need to have the room ready and accessible for installation. Please note Professional Independent Contactors do not assemble/disassemble specialty beds, pool tables, fish tanks, sports/workout equipment, pianos, or entertainment centers. Professional Independent Contractors do not disconnect gas appliances or reconnect appliances, gas/water lines, toilets, or sinks. You will need a separate contractor with appropriate expertise to reconnect these appliances.

DURING INSTALLATION

Prepare for your Installation

·      Verify all flooring installation materials are in your possession. If you do not have all of your material, please contact the Project Coordination Office at 1-800-651-1635.

·      Prepare a clear path for the Professional Independent Contractor to perform their services.

·      Remove any room furnishings, valuables, and breakable items from the service site.

·      Perform any labor that has not been contracted to LL Flooring, such as moving furniture, appliances, and/or removal of existing flooring prior to the arrival of your Professional Independent Contractor.

Arrange to be Present for your Installation

We understand your flooring project is more than a monetary investment in your home. It is a commitment of time and effort. Be prepared to be present, or appoint a trustworthy representative to be present on your behalf, for the duration of your project. Natural hardwoods vary in color from board to board. Every piece is different. This variation is part of the woods natural beauty and considered normal. If any boards are unacceptable due to color, finish, milling, or any other reason, it is up to you to inform the Professional Independent Contractor to use them in another location or not use them at all.

Maintain an Optimal Service Site

While your home is undergoing this exciting transformation, we ask that you please maintain a clean, safe, and clear service site. Be aware of the following:

·      Product Satisfaction: After the first 4-5 boxes are laid out, you will be asked to review the floor to ensure everything looks like you expected (layout, color, grade, etc.). This involvement is necessary to ensure you get the desired results.

·      Dust & Debris: While your project is in progress, expect a certain amount of dust and debris. Precautions will be put into place to minimize the impact and protect your property.

·      Noise & Odor: There will be sawing, hammering, and other machinery noises during the installation. Some installations may cause a strong odor from adhesives and sealers. Be sure to make arrangements for those in your home that may have sensory sensitivity.

·      People & Children: All occupants and visitors should remain at a safe distance from the work area. The tools, materials, and debris from the project may present hazardous conditions.

·      Pets: If you have pets, ensure they are secured away from the work area. The Professional Independent Contractor will need to enter and exit your home while the install is in progress and is not responsible for securing pets.

Hidden or Unknown Conditions

Our goal is to ensure your install is perfectly matched to your home. During an installation project, the Professional Independent Contractor may uncover conditions, such as subfloor issues (i.e. unevenness, flatness, water damage) and other structural concerns that could not be seen at the time of your Project Estimate. Before the Professional Independent Contractor can proceed with the installation, conditions outside installation guidelines must be addressed.

If the Professional Independent Contractor can remedy the issues, an estimate for additional materials and services will be provided for your approval and the appropriate adjustments to the installation schedule will be made. If the Professional Independent Contractor cannot remedy the issues, you will need to hire another tradesman to address the issues before the installation can resume. If you opt to have a third-party address the necessary changes to the project, then the work performed will need to be reviewed by your Professional Independent Contractor before the project continues.

Site Clean Up

Upon completion, the Professional Independent Contractor will remove all debris associated with your project unless specifically indicated otherwise on your order. You may need to touch up and paint areas, such as baseboard or molding, affected by the installation as this is not part of the installation service.

Installation Completion Form

After you have completed a walk-through, confirm the project has been completed to your satisfaction by signing the Installation Completion Form. If a representative is signing on your behalf, ensure he/she designates his/her relationship to you. This document does not affect your warranty in any way. Additionally, there is a section for customer comments. Please provide any feedback that you would like to be communicated to LL Flooring. Your feedback is valuable as we strive to continually improve our services.

PROPERLY PREPARE FOR YOUR INSTALL

Please clear tables and shelves. Pack up and put away electronics and breakables.

Maintenance

Gaps between floor boards do not constitute a product failure and may be the result of normal seasonal changes. Similarly, minor flooring noise/squeaks may also be a result of a change in climate. It is crucial that the indoor environment be a safe haven for wood, vinyl planks, bamboo, cork, and laminate flooring. The environment should generally be kept at an industry recommended standard of 60˚ - 80˚ Fahrenheit. (Note: Some products have different limits. Always consult the product installation guide.) The relative humidity (RH) in your home should also be in accordance with manufacturer’s guidelines. Tile and solid vinyl products are not affected by relative humidity. Generally, your RH should not drop below 30% or exceed 70%. Products can fluctuate between these RH levels within certain limits. Laminate and engineered wood flooring generally allow 30% fluctuation in RH (e.g. 30 – 60% RH). Solid bamboo, solid hardwood and cork, generally falls in the 20% allowable fluctuation range (e.g. 40 – 60% RH). Leaving windows and exterior doors open can adversely impact the humidity levels inside your home. Consult your Warranty, Installations, and Care Guide for your product’s environmental requirements.

A whole home humidifier may be necessary for arid conditions. Gaps and cracks in flooring indicate a dry environment. Wood stoves, electric, and radiant floor heat all contribute to a lack of moisture.

Elevated humidity can be reduced by the use of a dehumidifier. Buckling, musty odors, and droplets on the inside glass doors and window panes, among other things, denote a moist environment.

FLOOR CARE TIPS

To ensure lasting beauty of your new flooring, LL Flooring suggests you follow the care and maintenance recommendations made specific to your flooring material. For more tips on how to care for your specific product, visit our website, enter your product code, and click on the Warranty, Installation, and Care Guide under Specifications. Information can also be found on our Flooring 101 Floor Care webpage. LL Flooring offers complete floor care kits designed to maintain your floors. Contact your local LL Flooring store associate for details.

1. The temperature should generally be kept at an industry recommended standard of 60˚ - 80˚ Fahrenheit five days prior to install and thereafter. (Note: Some products have different limits. Always consult your product’s Warranty, Installation, and Care Guide.)

2. The relative humidity in your home should also be in accordance with manufacturer’s guidelines. Tile and solid vinyl products are not affected by relative humidity. Generally, your relative humidity should not drop below 30% or exceed 70%. Products can fluctuate between these relative humidity levels within certain limits. Laminate and engineered wood flooring generally allow 30% fluctuation in relative humidity (e.g. 30% - 60% RH). Solid bamboo, solid hardwood, and cork generally falls in the 20% allowable fluctuation (e.g. 40% - 60% RH). Leaving windows and exterior doors open can adversely impact the humidity levels inside your home. Consult your product’s Warranty, Installation, and Care Guide for environmental requirements.

3. Dust mop the floor often using the Bellawood® Cleaning Kit. We do not endorse the use of hot steam cleaning machines on hardwood products; use at your own risk.

4. Spot clean spills with a damp cloth then buff dry. Do not use ammonia, vinegar, or oil soap cleaners.

5. For spots such as candle wax or chewing gum, harden the spot with ice and gently scrape with a plastic scraper, such as a credit card. Be careful not to scratch the flooring surface. Wipe clean with a damp cloth.

6. Use vacuums designed for hard surface flooring.

7. Use mats inside and outside exterior doors to collect grit and moisture. Do not use plastic foam backed mats as they may contain solvents that could harm the flooring finish.

8. To help prevent scratches, use felt protectors under furniture legs and trim your pet’s nails.

9. Do not walk on your floor with stiletto heels or shoes with sports cleats/exposed metal parts.

10. UV sunlight will enhance —lighten or darken— the tone of different species of hardwood to varying degrees. Periodically rearranging your area rugs and furniture will allow the floor to antique or age evenly.

11. For tile, only use LL Flooring recommended cleaning products or neutral pH cleaners specifically designed for ceramic and porcelain floors.

At the option of the first to commence an arbitration, the arbitration shall be administered either by JAMS pursuant to its Streamlined Arbitration Rules and Procedures, or by the American Arbitration Association pursuant to its Commercial Arbitration Rules. The arbitrator shall have no power to add to, delete from or modify these limited warranty terms. Each of us shall have the right to conduct discovery to which we would be entitled had the dispute been resolved in a state court of general jurisdiction in the state of the LL Flooring store where you purchased the products. Judgment on the arbitrator's award may be entered in any court having jurisdiction. This clause shall not preclude either party from seeking provisional remedies in aid of arbitration from a court of appropriate jurisdiction. The arbitrator may, as part of the award, allocate all or part of the costs of the arbitration, including the fees of the arbitrator and the reasonable attorneys' fees of the prevailing party. The arbitrator shall only have the authority to resolve individual disputes between you and LL Flooring. Notwithstanding the foregoing, in addition to our rights set forth above, we may initiate proceedings directly in the appropriate court located in the U.S. city nearest the LL Flooring store where you purchased the Products in connection with any claim to collect amounts due and owing by you.
