Tips for Styling Blonde Hardwood Floors

Blonde or natural-toned hardwood is always in style, no matter the era.

Blonde or natural-toned hardwood is always in style, no matter the era. With its brightening qualities and neutral, calming tones, light hardwood is a versatile, timeless flooring option that can be worked into virtually any home, no matter your tastes or décor style.

If you really want to spotlight your light hardwood (and all of its bright, natural qualities) here are some design and style tips that will make them shine.

Mid-Century Mod

Blonde wood and mid-century design go together like two peas in a mod pod. By providing a light, neutral, organic backdrop—with blonde wood floors and accents—you can simultaneously play up the funky, geometric shapes in your décor and furniture and introduce colorful, textured patterns in your art or wallpaper, all while keeping things light and breezy.

And, with light-colored hardwood, you can think bigger than just floors—blonde wood can be used as a wall accent or ceiling covering to bring further depth and dimension to a space (without weighing it down).

Consider this use of LL Flooring’s New England White Pine on the ceiling of this Palm Springs, California, mid-century home by designer Heather Fox. By installing the planks on the ceiling throughout the home, she created a seamless, consistent style throughout while tying in different colors, materials, and patterns in each room.

Where Modern Meets Classic

“Blonde wood” is a catch-all term for a variety of tints and wood types—from oak to maple, and beyond. If the lighter tints are too modern-feeling for your taste, consider something with a bit more depth, like Geneva White Oak Engineered Hardwood, which captures elegant, classic European design with its more medium-toned color, while also providing a modern edge with wider planks and wire-brushed texture.

Bathed in Blue

Because of its amazing versatility, blonde wood can be successfully paired with virtually any hue—but it’s especially complementary when paired with shades of blue. By using blues with slight hints of gray, you can bring out the warm natural tones and accents of blonde wood while creating a calming aesthetic that’s prime for more vibrant pops of color.
