New Year’s Home Resolutions
An overview of the trends, ideas, colors and vibes that people will want in their homes for 2023.
Ah, the promise of a new year. For some, looking ahead to another year can be harrowing—the ever-growing list of resolutions can seem impossible to tackle. Sometimes, though, a good refresh can help us clear our heads and forge new paths—whether they be in life or design.
There are some promising trends coming down the pipeline that we’re really looking forward to, starting in our own homes. When COVID-19 locked us away, people started going all in on making their spaces cozy, calming, and comfortable—updating their overall palette to warmer, more welcoming colors or adding accents that felt unique to their personalities.
Home design trends for 2023 could spell more of the same, building upon the trends we saw play out through the ups and downs of the pandemic. But, we should also prepare to see the introduction of brighter, brilliant shades, as people return to normal life and seek a bit of adventure and exploration. Goodbye quaint cottage core—hello bold individualism.
Here are some upcoming design trends we’re adding to our own lists of resolutions for the new year.
Organic Oasis
The trend of furnishing our homes with natural, eco-conscious materials isn’t going anywhere. In fact, it’s predicted to increase in the coming year. Rather than use synthetic materials or cold metals, materials like wood, clay, and tile are continuing their takeover, instilling a warm, subtle sense of calm in our homes.
You can incorporate these materials into your home décor with furniture, small decorative accents, or in something more substantial like butcher block countertops. LL Flooring’s line of butcher block offers quality, style, and function for your kitchen, making it an inviting space to entertain guests.
Splash of Color
Now that people are venturing out of their homes more frequently, and travel is back on the table, we’re likely going to see more risks being taken with bold color in our homes. That doesn’t mean that you have to paint your living room in a shade of chartreuse (though we certainly won’t object), but it does mean that we’ll be seeing more colorful walls, tiles, and accents as people return to normal outside life and the fun resumes.
You can also expect to see an embrace of warm neutrals like chocolate browns and shades of brown-pink, which play well with natural materials to make a space feel comfy and lived-in.
Cool Craftsmanship
In the last 100 years since 2020 (we’re basing that number on feeling alone), people have gotten an intimate sense of the quality of their home’s furniture. While mass-produced options are accessible and considerably cheaper, the trend of throwaway furniture is slowing down, met with the growing interest in hand-crafted, higher-quality pieces that are sure to last much longer.
