LLStyle: Mother's Day & Some Favorite Design Blogs
Instead of another bouquet of flowers, consider taking the initiative on a home improvement project Mom has been meaning to do but hasn’t found the time yet. Here are a few ideas for easy projects that the rest of the family can tackle in no more than a weekend while Mom kicks up her heels.
Easy Home Improvement Ideas for Mother’s Day
Your mom tells you the same thing every Mother’s Day: “I just want to spend time with my children.” And while that’s true, that doesn’t mean Mom couldn’t use a hand with a few things around the house.
Instead of another bouquet of flowers, consider taking the initiative on a home improvement project Mom has been meaning to do but hasn’t found the time yet. Here are a few ideas for easy projects that the rest of the family can tackle in no more than a weekend while Mom kicks up her heels.
Build Planter boxes
Building planter boxes is simple for anyone with a drill and a handsaw.
Give Mom’s home a little curb appeal with some cedar planter boxes
and you’ll be giving her flowers for months to come.
Install a Backsplash
There are few projects that make a kitchen more functional and better looking, while costing so little, as a simple tile backsplash. And instead of smearing the wall with mastic and arranging tiles one-by-one, you can buy peel-and-stick treatments that make the application a no-brainer.
Consider an Accent Floor
You don’t have to change up an entire living room worth of space to make a statement with the right flooring.
Pick a smaller room — a mud room, laundry room, side entrance — and select a few square feet of our CoreLux engineered vinyl plank to liven up the space.
As an added bonus, it’s simple to install. (May we recommend Geneva Oak?).
Small Kitchen Upgrades
You’re not going to refurbish Mom’s kitchen on a whim, but there are tons of tiny projects that can make a kitchen much more functional. Maybe the faucet is wearing and could be replaced. Maybe the hardware on the cabinets could use a refresh. Storage is a problem in almost every kitchen — a quick DIY on the inside of the cabinets will keep her pots and pans in order.
Other Storage Solutions
Remember all those times Mom reminded you to tidy up your space? Well return the favor and help her organize for once. The garage is an especially good candidate for building simple storage shelving. Also consider screwing some pegboard to the garage walls to hang up garden tools.
For all the Moms out there, what’s your Mother’s Day wish? Whatever it is, we hope you have a great day — you deserve it!
