Get Cozy: Decor Ideas to Create a Comfortable Winter Haven

We’re excited to transform our living spaces into cozy havens with soft textures, warm light, and plenty of relaxation.

We all know of the importance of getting outside, even during the colder months, but let’s be real—braving the bone-chilling breeze (and bitter bite of ice and snow) is something that most of us would rather avoid. When conditions outside are—shall we say—less than ideal, having a warm, comfortable place to relax inside is the key to thriving until springtime arrives.

So, instead of shivering in place as we wait out the winter, we’re excited to transform our living spaces into cozy havens with soft textures, warm light, and plenty of relaxation. Here are some style ideas to help you crank up the comfort in your own home as you patiently await spring’s gentle, warming touch.

The Colors

Everyone has different color preferences, but there’s no denying that, when it’s dark and dreary outside, being surrounded by bright, warm tones can make a huge difference in the feel of your home. If you’d like to go with neutrals, consider warm whites, light browns, and deeper chocolate browns in your textiles, decor, and furniture. This Scandinavian-style approach creates a calming, relaxing effect.

Alternatively, if you’re in the mood to inject some vibrancy into your color scheme, consider shades of sage, forest green and terra cotta to bring some nature-inspired organic appeal to the space.

The Textures

Textures are key to a cozy home all year round, but they become especially important during the colder winter months. Honestly, is there anything nicer than cozying up with a warm blanket on a soft couch or plush armchair when the snow is blowing outside? We certainly don’t think so.

When it comes to blankets and pillows, seek out plush textures or thick, chunky knits to throw over your chairs or couches. For other decorative items, tying in warm, organic materials like wood, clay, and stone can bring oodles of natural appeal to your space, making it feel both timeless and comfortable.

The Accoutrements

Winter is a great opportunity to explore some new local shops and antique stores to build a collection of tchotchkes (re: trinkets) for your home that feel unique to you. Layer in your collection with some white candles or varying sizes to build a visual that’s fun and one-of-a-kind—and who knows, something might even start a conversation with friends or family who are enjoying your cozy new space.
