What Is the Best Water-Resistant Engineered Wood Flooring?

Think you can't have both water resistance and wood flooring? Think again! Discover water-resistant AquaSeal technology from LL Flooring.

Wood and waterproof are two words that usually don’t go together. That's for one simple reason: Wood is porous and will soak up moisture—even from the air surrounding it. Whether we're talking solid or engineered hardwood, fully "waterproof" may not describe your wood flooring. But what should you do if you’d like real hardwood floors but are worried about spills, splashes, and generally damp environments? The good news is that you don't have to give up on your flooring dreams. Water resistance may be all you need. If that's the case, AquaSeal engineered hardwood is just what you’re looking for.

Solid Hardwood and Moisture

Solid hardwood is a single piece of wood through and through; by nature, it will react as wood does when it comes to moisture. That means it's suited to drier areas of the home, such as living rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms. It should be installed at grade (meaning ground level) or above—never in basements or over a concrete subfloor. A spill here and there shouldn't harm your solid hardwood flooring, but it's still best to wipe up accidents promptly.

How Is Engineered Hardwood Different?

Engineered hardwood is constructed with a top layer of real solid hardwood over a core constructed of either lumber, MDF, plywood, or a stone-polymer composite (SPC). This layered construction increases the board's stability, which in turn helps reduce the floor's reaction to moisture in the environment. You can install this flooring on any level of your home—and even over concrete.

So, given all that, are engineered wood floors waterproof? Not universally, but at LL Flooring we are proud to be able to offer you one water-resistant flooring solution.

What’s Water-Resistant Engineered Hardwood?

LL Flooring's AquaSeal engineered hardwood combines natural wood and human ingenuity to create a hardwood option for areas prone to spills and splashes. The SPC core and locking technology work together to make the flooring less reactive to moisture while preventing liquids from seeping through the seams. This is what we mean by water resistance. With AquaSeal, you don’t have to rush to clean up spills right away.

You don’t have to sacrifice style, either. You can find the same gorgeous look of hardwood flooring, from the deepest chocolates to the lightest blondes, in a selection of species and grain patterns.

Looking for real hardwood options for your kitchen, bathroom, or other areas prone to moisture? Shop LL Flooring’s AquaSeal collection for the genuine hardwood beauty and style you desire, plus the water resistance you need.
