FAQ: Will Furniture Scratch My Vinyl Flooring?

Give your floors extra care as furniture can damage any flooring. Prolong the dent and wear resistance of your vinyl with these simple tips.

Just like with any hard flooring, furniture can scratch vinyl flooring, but there are ways to help prevent this unlikely occurrence. Vinyl flooring has a hardy wear layer and a sturdy core that combine to create exceptionally scratch-resistant and dent-resistant flooring. However if furniture is particularly heavy, such as your treadmill or dining room hutch, or when there is some abrasive material either on the item or between it and the floor, damage can happen.

You can protect your vinyl floor by using felt pads or caps on your furniture's legs. These pads help reduce friction and provide a cushion between the floor and furniture. Area rugs can also help protect your flooring from furniture. In addition, don't push or drag heavy furniture on vinyl floors. Instead, lift and carry furniture when moving it.

Also, we recommend keeping your floor clean. You may not even notice your floor is dirty. But, when dirt is trapped between a chair leg and vinyl, over time it can start to scuff the wear layer of your floor. Regular maintenance cleaning will help prevent this kind of damage and keep your flooring looking its best for longer.
