Daylight Saving Bedroom Refresh
With Daylight Saving just around the corner (!), we’re taking the opportunity to reassess our bedrooms for springtime, and offer up a few tips to refresh your space, whatever your style might look like.
Having spent more than our fair share of time inside of our homes over the last two years, we’ve all gotten a very good sense of what we like and what we don’t like in our decor. With ample time to analyze our interior design, the importance of making intentional style choices in our homes has never been more apparent—and in no room is this deliberate decision-making more essential than the one we rely on most for rest and relaxation: our bedroom.
With Daylight Saving just around the corner (!), we’re taking the opportunity to reassess our bedrooms for springtime, and offer up a few tips to refresh your space, whatever your style might look like.
Calming Colors
Everyone has unique preferences and ideas of relaxation—for some, it’s light, airy, neutral tones that provide instant zen, while for others it can be deep, dark, sophisticated tones that bring peace and calm.
Whatever your taste, it’s worthwhile to take some time and visualize your ideal sleeping space, and note any other places you’ve been that have brought you calm. Whether it’s shades of cream, cornflower blue, or deep forest green, deciding the overall tone of the space can help you build the framework to design within.
Refinish your furniture
Between dressers, shelving, and nightstands, bedrooms often have to integrate a lot of large, clunky furniture pieces, and it can be a challenge to make them flow with the room. One way to add a touch of modern flair to a dated or tired bedroom set is with a simple coat of paint—in just a few days, your traditional antique dresser or vanity will be transformed into a classic, yet modern, piece of furniture.
If you’re reluctant to make any drastic color choices with your walls, this is a great way to incorporate some different shades into your space, or go more neutral to keep things soft.
Comfort First
In other rooms of the house—the kitchen, the dining room perhaps—there’s plenty of opportunity to play with different shapes and materials in your furniture. But when it comes to your bedroom, the first and final rule should be comfort. From chairs to bedding to floorspace, you want pieces that lend themselves to an equal balance of style and coziness. Leave the jute rugs and rigid chairs to the other rooms. The bedroom calls for fluffy, high-pile rugs, stuffed chairs, soft, breathable bedding, and pillows—lots of pillows.
