Influential Interiors: Bedroom Edition
What do we want in a bedroom? It’s a place where you might spend up to a third of your lifetime, so it has to work at peak efficiency.
Since we’ve been spending more time at home than ever before, bedrooms have become a lot of different things..
They’ve turned into makeshift offices, or a place to eat takeout and cozy up to a serial drama on Netflix. For some, they’ve been re-envisioned as a sanctuary to combat the unrelenting uncertainty the past year has brought.
Folks have been injecting their sleeping spaces with new moods and new purposes, and we’ve noticed some inspiring creativity taking place. We often turn to social media to dream about the looks we can create in our own homes. So it’s off to the bedroom for the latest installment of Influential Interiors—our series that gleans insights from our favorite interior designs, one room or trend at a time.
What do we want in a bedroom? It’s a place where you might spend up to a third of your lifetime, so it has to work at peak efficiency. It needs to deliver the right amount of comfort and functionality. It needs to have a mood that sets the tone of both a restful sleep and optimistic new day.
Here are just a few recent bedroom designs that we love!
Light Wood:
Darker woods are feeling too overbearing right now, especially in the bedroom. We’re digging the look of wicker, rattan, and bamboo—lighter materials that give a more sustainable feeling to decor.
They also leave space for more moody accents, like this dark, textured statement wall by Southern California decorator Ashley Hanes @houseofhaines.
This Bedroom
Features an engineered hardwood flooring from Bellawood.
This is a use of distressed flooring in a contemporary setting. You can do this. And it truly creates a wow factor
Black Magic:
Darker woods are feeling too overbearing right now, especially in the bedroom. We’re digging the look of wicker, rattan, and bamboo—lighter materials that give a more sustainable feeling to decor, and also leave space for more moody accents, like a dark, textured statement wall by @houseofhaines.
We are digging how @the.little.bird brought in a bold black accent wall (and extra points for the vertical shiplap) to couple up a modern and cozy feel.
Knit and Textured Fabrics
The keyword is cozy. Try layering several kinds of textured fabrics in the same material (cotton, likely) and color scheme.
This bedroom from Sheila of @simple.joy.at.home gives us those feelings,
from a simple knit weave to the raised texture of the bedspread.
The tactile nature of all these fabrics together is SO inviting.
Gallery Walls
Who says picture displays should be confined to entryways and living rooms? If you’re looking to set a mood in your bedroom, a gallery wall of prints might be the accent you’re looking for. Check out how this space, from @homey_interior_decor, does it with sepia tones and a natural theme.
Centerpiece Storage
Does a closed-off closet make your small bedroom feel even smaller?
We’ve noticed that smart display-oriented storage can make a room feel more grand and cohesive. The lighting and segmentation of this @inspired_elements closet, shared by @kbbmagazine makes this bedroom feel straight out of a high-end clothier.
