If 2020 showed us anything, it’s that people are really making the most of their time at home, moving those back-burner projects to the top of the to-do list to make their home a true sanctuary. And according to Qualified Remodeler’s 2021 market forecast, the remodeling industry will continue to grow by 5 percent in 2021 as people continue to take on more home projects.

With that in mind, we are introducing a new LL Style series – Influential Interiors. This collection of articles will focus on one room or home design trend at a time, bringing it to life and providing you with inspiration for your next project by showcasing remodels from some of our favorite interior designers and DIYers.

First up is the basement.

Basements really are used for many different things nowadays, from an extra storage area to a playroom for the kids, to the go-to place for entertainment. As we continue to spend more time at home, the basement can be one of the best places to give you extra living space.

Whether you’re sprucing up an existing space to make it more functional this year or doing a full renovation, here are some looks we love!

Gallery Walls

Gallery walls can give a space interest on any level. Click to follow JoNae Villeneuve on IG

Designer JoNae Villeneuve pulled together a perfect gallery wall in her basement re-design, combining different sized frames of original prints with limited editions, all while using unique and cohesive frames.

Open Shelving

Concept for open shelving from Kaycie of Greybirch Designs, see her farmhouse and boho tips here.

We love the reclaimed wood and copper piping opening shelving that Kaycie Chiampi used to frame her basement entertainment center. It’s a great blend of modern and rustic, which also shows off some great décor and easily accessible storage.

Creating Private Space

Guest Room Design by design Katie Gelsheimer

Extra, private space in your home is hard to come by nowadays. Katie Gelsheimer made the most of her basement remodel by separating out a bedroom with sliding barn doors, saving space and keeping the area more open than with traditional doors.

Entertainment Area

Katie Sullivan's basement is ready for entertaining.

Basements offer the perfect area for entertaining friends and family when the time is right. If you have a little extra space you don’t know what to do with, think about incorporating a small bar and seating area for guests to gather, like the beautiful space Katie Sullivan created in her home. We also have to note the beautiful chevron wood floors that were installed!

We plan on continuing the Influential Interiors series in the coming weeks and months, spotlighting a different room in each post, as well as showcasing different designers we love.
