New Year, New You. And New Home Looks for 2021!

To get you inspired for the new year, we’ve combed through some of our favorite resources to showcase styles to help you rework your home (rather than working out your abs).

A New Year is always a natural time to reset personally, to look ahead and chart goals to improve ourselves. It can also be a natural time to revisit the styles of our spaces to bring in a fresh design and perspective. And while resolving to work out every day may end up being a nightmare of a habit to build, rejuvenating the style of your home can still be a dream come true.

To get you inspired, we’ve combed through some of our favorite resources to showcase styles to help you rework your home (rather than working out your abs).

Colors of 2021
With each New Year comes a collection of paint brands highlighting their colors of the year. The great thing about paint is that with some old clothes, a drop cloth and a brush, you can quickly and dramatically brighten, change up and refresh a space.

Sherwin Williams is touting its Urbane Bronze, which they note “…might be a color rooted in nature, but it also has a unique ability to ground a room through organic appeal…for a feeling of relaxation and serenity.”

Pantone is highlighting its Ultimate Gray and Illuminating combination, which they state is “aspirational and gives us hope…We need to feel that everything is going to get brighter.”
Meanwhile Benjamin Moore declared Aegean Teal 2136-40 one of its colors of 2021. It "creates natural harmony," they explained.

Playing with colors is a great way to enhance a space and there are plenty of online resources to help you select the best hues for your home, whether it’s one of these colors of the year or any of the thousands of other choices — Remodlista has a good set of tips to get you painting like a pro.

Thumbs Up to Green Thumbs
Bringing in plants to your home provides an instant vibe of fresh life and also can brighten your rooms’ colors, as well as your mood. In addition to looking great, plants can clean and purify air, help you to relax, plus support creativity and productivity, according to HomeDesignLover.com.

Don’t be scared if you’re not a natural when it comes to keeping plants alive. There are wonderful plant options that are easy to care for and look beautiful — and HGTV.ca provides a great list.

Sanctuary Bathrooms
When the work-from-home day is done, there’s nothing like a spa-like space to get away and decompress. That’s why bathrooms are becoming sanctuary spaces that can give us a peaceful relaxation zone. This doesn’t have to mean adding in a glorious copper bathtub (but why not?), but it could include adding seats to the shower or a new showerhead — or go big with multiple showerheads — to upgrade the powder-room experience. Waterproof stone-look flooring, like Bianca Carrara porcelain tile creates a luxurious ambiance. Lighting is another major factor in creating a relaxing bathroom environment, where a focus should be put toward both vanity lights, dimmers (for that evening soak), or even small decorative lights or small chandeliers to add luxury — get more bathroom lighting tips from Lumens.com. Of course, don’t forget how plush towels and robes can add comfort to your routine, plus they can also add bonus style points.
