GreenGuard Certification

What is GREENGUARD?

GREENGUARD Certification is an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) that verifies a product has low chemical and particle emissions, helping to reduce indoor air pollution and the risk of chemical exposure.

GREENGUARD Certification is part of UL Environment, a business unit of Underwriters Laboratories (UL), which is dedicated to promoting safe living and working environments through the advancement of global sustainability.

GREENGUARD Certification requires an extensive third-party audit conducted by UL Environment. Products are measured for chemical and particle emissions as they are tested in dynamic environmental chambers to simulate actual product use. By earning an EPD from UL Environment, Lumber Liquidators shows its commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability leadership.

To confirm continuous low emissions, GREENGUARD Certified products undergo regular compliance testing.

GREENGUARD Gold Certification includes additional safety factors to account for sensitive individuals (such as children and the elderly) and helps ensure that a product is acceptable for use in environments such as schools and healthcare facilities.

Why is GREENGUARD important?

Flooring can have a major impact on indoor air quality due to its large surface area. When you see the GREENGUARD certification mark, you can have peace of mind knowing the floor you're buying has met some of the world's most rigorous, third-party chemical emissions standards, such as being screened for more than 10,000 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) ? and that means healthier indoor spaces.

And there's more. In addition to understanding the environmental impacts of the products you're buying, you can also potentially earn credit towards Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certification by selecting products with an EPD like GREENGUARD.
