Exploring the Latest Trend: Flooring on Walls
When you've found a type of flooring that you love, consider expanding that look throughout your space for a unique and dynamic aesthetic. Whether you’re looking to install flooring for an entire wall, or looking to create decorate accent pieces to match the rest of your décor, such as in an entry way or around a fireplace, LL Flooring has several options for wood or stone looks that come in a variety of species, shades, colors, and textures. We have options that will help you create a rustic farmhouse look, a sharp modern design, or a timeless classic atmosphere. Our collection has a solution that will complete your space and take it to the next level.
At LL Flooring we have several types of flooring available for wall installation, such as engineered hardwood, cork, vinyl, bamboo, and laminate. Let's look at some of these so you can choose the one that works best with your design and needs.
Engineered Hardwood
Bring in the classic beauty of wood
Engineered Hardwood brings together the elegant look of solid wood and the reliability of a stable core that can tolerate fluctuations in temperature and humidity. The planks come in wider widths that align with modern trends and you can install them at any level of the house, including the basement. LL Flooring is home to several brands that offer engineered hardwood products of a variety of species, including acacia, oak, hickory, and more.
Colors range from white to onyx and include various shades of browns and reds in between, ready to match every type of space and personality. There are also various finishes, from distressed to smooth textures and looks, allowing for further customization to integrate with your special space.
How to Install
For wall installation, the most often used method is a combination of glue, nails, or screws, which are applied to the back of the planks in a serpentine fashion. You then drive the nails directly through the drywall into the studs, or perhaps a layer of plywood. Any substrate must be clean, dry, and flat. It's important to let the planks acclimate to the environment as you wood for flooring. While an experienced DIYer can install flooring on walls, we recommend choosing a professional for the installation of the tongue-and-groove process.
How to Care
Just as with hardwood, it's important that you maintain the environment to which your chosen product is best suited. Engineered hardwood installed on walls needs regular care to maintain its rich quality. For cleaning and scratch repair, check out the array of floor care products available at LL Flooring.
Bamboo (Engineered)
Natural walls for your peace of mind
Bamboo flooring provides a natural wood look but often for a lower cost than hardwood. It is also a strong wood, making it less susceptible to scratches and dents—a great choice for spaces with active families and pets. Bamboo also stains well, allowing you to keep its natural look or make it mimic the look of the traditional hardwood. LL Flooring offers engineered bamboo flooring, which consists of a veneer of solid bamboo attached to a core for extra stability, and to better handle temperature and humidity fluctuation. You can install it at any level of your home with a properly prepared substrate. Bamboo flooring comes in a wide variety of colors, shades, and widths to best suit your space and personality.
How to Install and Maintain
Follow the recommended acclimation advice for your chosen product. The specifics will depend on what the core is made from, and for best results we recommend maintaining your home environment just as you would if you were installing your product as flooring. The install method is the same as engineered wood. Once the wall is installed, you can use floor cleaners and other care products offered at LL Flooring to help keep your wall long-lasting for years to come.
Laminate
Authentic experience for a fraction of the cost
The main attraction of laminate is that you can get the look, feel, and sound of authentic hardwood or stone flooring for a fraction of the cost. The innovative technology uses a real wood-based core with several layers, including a design layer, that all mimics the experience of traditional hardwood or stone—down to the species, colors, shades, grains, and textures. In addition, laminate products have a clear top layer that is resistant to scratches, stains, wear, and fading.
How to Install & Maintain
Due to the nature of wall installations, laminate flooring is also generally installed as indicated above, but the locking mechanism may need to be modified in some cases. Otherwise, you can lock it as normal. Because laminate is also a true wood-based product, it also needs to be acclimated for at least 48 hours before installation. The substrate has to be clean, flat, and dry. Laminate planks are very easy to maintain. They can simply be wiped free of dust. Occasionally, you can use a damp cloth with mild detergent. You can also use our range of cleaning products specifically designed to keep your floors and walls looking vibrant and just as you want for as long as possible.
